As a citizen of Norway, and a tourist in the USA, I have often counted my blessings. Don't get me wrong. I love being in other countries, and I love being in the USA in many ways. I see the beauty and I see a lot of wonderful people. I see some advantages and benefits that you have that we don't have. But I also see a lot of wonderful benefits in my own country, compared to similar areas where I travel.
I pay approximately 34% of my paycheck in taxes. And I pay a lot of taxes when I buy food, clothes and other neccesary things for my household. But what I get for my taxes is a long list.
I get a relatively free health care, meaning I only pay a small amount going to the doctors or buying medication on prescription. And after I reach a certain amount per year, I get the doctorapointment and medication for the rest of the year for free. And hospitals are free, for the patients. The taxes covers a lot of my retirement when that time comes, and it would also cover part of my paycheck if I should, God forbid, find my self unemployed at some point. It finance a big part of the building of infrastructure and the maintenance. The list could go on, but that is not my main point here. What my taxes also pay for, is other, less fortunate people that may have fallen out of the job-marked, or are incapable of working due to disabilities or whatever reason. They, of course, also pay taxes from their money they get from the government for life support, so they contribute even if they are less capable than the average worker with bigger paychecks. Social democracy and hard work has built this country, and we are not flawless at all, but we are more fortunate and have less flaws than others.
But, it was not Norway that was meant to be my focal point in this article. I just had to let out that I am totally aware how fortunate I am in many ways, being born and raised in Norway.
No, my focal point is the USA and the upcoming election. Because that election affects the whole world. USA, it's politics and its economics, has an influence all over the world. I still remember the cold war, and I have the financial crisis not that many years ago and the impact it had even here, freshly in mind. And I get goosebumps thinking about it. But what gives me even bigger goosebumps, is watching the news from the upcoming election in the USA. Really, people! Your hang-ups on the e-mail story around Hillary Clinton are dumbfounding for me as an outsider. Is all of Hillary Clintons great achievements during 40 years forgotten over that? Is Bill Clintons escapade with the Lewinsky-woman really affecting Hillarys reputation so much that you want Trump instead? You choose a racist and a big chauvinist over a woman that has fought for women, children and family rights for ages. A woman that, mind you, has created great publicity and focus, all over the world, for Women's rights are human rights. Check this https://youtu.be/ECNQDqMoAjw to see what I am talking about. And after you do, see if you can find a link to a similar story about Donald Trump... And even if you don't really love or like Hillray that much. How can you find it in you to vote for Trump. Really! Do you want WW3 to start with an excuse of " oh, it was only meant as sarcasm". (Or maybe the women and the Mexicans gets to take the blame.) Do you really want a leader that will get the rich people richer, the poor people poorer, and the women's and gay rights back to the 1900s. Watch out, I would not hold my breath over this guy not trying to reinstate slavery if he find it beneficial for the white rich guy club.I cannot help notice that the majority of Trump-voters share his opinions when it comes to the major causes like: pro the The second Amendment and con the immigrants and Muslims in particular, women, the LGBTQ-community and taxes. I will not label his voters, but I have to say that it looks like a lot of the rich white guy and women and many voters in the southern states has Trump in common because of those major causes.
I mentioned the Cold War earlier. It was scary, and I remember it almost like a play of chess, USA against USSR. But I have to admit: Trumps friendliness and, seemingly, fondness of Russia and Putin, is more scary. And on than note: we already have Putin. Please don't give us Trump in addition!
I am totally aware of the fact that I am sitting here, in a tiny country in Europe, an Europe that has had its share of challenges it self lately, and I am talking about tiny pieces of a big political picture. But please. I beg you, all responsible people in the USA. Your election affects all of us. Your President and your politics and economy, affects all of us. And no matter what, Hillary Clinton will do a lot of good things as madam President. And in the end of most days she will have done more good than harm. No doubt in my mind and heart. On the other hand. No matter what good deeds Donald Trump will do as President, He will always be a loose cannon, he will always be about me, myself and I, and I think in the end of most days, he will always have done more harm than good.
