My dear beloved people of Nice. My deepest condolences to all of you in this tragedy. I am so sorry to read, to hear and to see that terror again is shaking the peace in France. This time, by the hand of one single guy, over 80 human beings has been robbed of the rest of their lives. One guy decided and sealed their destiny. And left behind stands hundreds of people who lost their loved ones. And no words and no actions can get their loved ones back.
I am also deeply sorry that the media that is covering this, are trying to "pimp the tragedy". Because really: does anyone need close-up picture of bulletholes in a windshield to understand that the terrorist got shot. And is it really significant to anyone how many tourists, or Muslims , or Christians or children, or men or women died. At least 84 people died. That's a number that speaks volumes. That's a lot, and all of them are missed by someone. I don't need to know more than that a lot of innocent lives is lost, to grieve and feel sympathy with all of those who are grieving.
When the tragedy in Orlando happened, I felt vulnerable because it was "my kind of people". But with that said, I don't felle less empathy and grieve now. Because we are all human beings, and all of us and no one more than others becomes a target when we learn that it takes only one man and his truck and trailer to kill 84 people.
I have written it before,I am writing it again: all of us can make a difference. The Beatles sang " All you need is love", and they were on to something. Let's take a pause and listen to it, and I take this very moment to remind all of you that All you need is love starts with the first notes of the French national anthem. And I don't think that is a coincidence. Because France is The country of love, and Paris is the city of love. And his day is as good as any to remind us that All we need is love. Share your love. Tell the one you love that you do, and why. Tell your loved ones that you love them sooner rather than later. Show that you care, and make sure you care. All of us can make a difference, and it starts with changing hate into love. Yeah, maybe it is words, and just words. But who knows if they are not true unless we try. We all saw what hate or wrong beliefs could do again yesterday. So we know that is not the answer.
Humor me. Stay with me in this. I never said it was easy, but if love can fade, so can hate. And if hate is fading, love can increase, grow and blossom as an replacement.
Let us all start with our selves, try to be as good friend, wife, husband, partner, colleague, neighbor, citizen or human being as we can. We can only do our best, but our best is good enough. The change starts with you and me, and I refuse to give up my faith in the good in people, because if we loose the faith in each other, and if we stop believing that there is hope for the world, then we loose everything.
Vive la France, Vive l'amour, All you need is love.
